WASHINGTON, D.C. – Martin Uhlhorn, Principal of Strong Tower Insurance Group and the 2025-26 President of the Arizona chapter of the Big “I” (Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America), recently traveled to the nation’s capital to participate in the prestigious Big “I” Legislative Conference. Uhlhorn joined fellow independent insurance agents and brokers from across the country, invited to engage directly with key policymakers and the Big “I” federal government affairs team. The annual conference serves as a vital platform for industry professionals to discuss critical issues with their elected officials and network with peers.

This year’s agenda focused on several pressing matters impacting the insurance industry and their clients. Discussions centered around Tax Reform, including ongoing efforts to permanently extend the 2017 tax cuts. Disaster Mitigation was another key topic, with emphasis on bipartisan support for disaster relief initiatives and the crucial extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Participants also addressed Fix our Forests for wildfire prevention strategies and Legal Reform concerning litigation on funding disclosures and the extension of crop insurance through the upcoming farm bill.

Reflecting on his experience, Uhlhorn emphasized the value of the conference. “We learned about the process, how important our voice really is, and how the association, both locally and nationally, advocates for our industry and careers,” he stated.

The conference featured a distinguished lineup of keynote speakers, including U.S. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-Louisiana). Representative Scalise is recognized as a strong ally of the independent agency system and a leader on significant issues such as flood insurance and tax policy.

Uhlhorn’s participation in the Big “I” Legislative Conference underscores the commitment of independent insurance agents in Arizona to actively engage in the legislative process and advocate for the best interests of their clients and the industry as a whole. His involvement highlights the crucial role of organizations like the Big “I” in ensuring the voices of independent agents are heard in Washington D.C.
